Melie's mother is sometimes nice, sometimes mean -- and always prone to erratic behavior that Melie does her best to deal with. As a little girl, she invents things to protect herself from her mother's mood swings. When she becomes a teenager, tip-toeing around her own house she becomes depressed. No one understands her, and since her mother is not able to change, she has to do it herself.It was a nice book that shows you sometimes you have to take it on yourself to do what's best for you.
